Everyone who has visited Singapore knows this big bulky yet design building on Orchard Road: the Singapore Visitor Center.

The SVC’s window was interactive last week for a special interactivity operation organized by LM3LABS‘ partner Mosaic Solutions.

People could play games or get access to multi-media information about Singapore directly from the window.

If you are in Tokyo between April 21st and June 7th, pay a visit to NTT InterCommunication Center’s 10th Anniversary. There are great things to see.

NTT ICC is a cultural center which aims at bridging art and technology and it hosts the best "interactivity" artists in the world.

Of course there is an impressive Ubiq’window AirStrike but there are great artists exposing amazing projects integrating images, interactivity, art, sounds… This exhibit is one of the best from NTT ICC (our point of view).

The Expo is called The Future of Media x Art.

Ubiq’window + plasma screens

Ubiq’window can be applied to many applications. Here is an example made by our distributors in Singapore (iM3Asia) who made the integration with a plasma screen for Acuvue.

Plasma screen can also be inside the shop, behind the window, letting passing people on the sidewalk interact with the plasma thru the window. It is an integration which prevents vandalism, limits maintenance and cannot be done with any other technology. This integration also prevents the unpleasant heat of the plasma screen.

Is it a nicer world?

In December 2006, the city a Sao Paolo, Brazil, passed a law banning outdoor advertisement. Billboards, company signs, flyers in public places…

The law enters in action these days.
Does it make a better world? We let you judge from Tony de Marco’s Flickr’s stream.

This is nothing surprising for us. Times are changing and it shows that traditional ways to advertize are over. It is a call for smarter advertizing, more focused, more effective, smarter.

Now, the questions are: couldn’t they find a way of the middle ? What is coming next ? Interactive shop windows everywhere  ;-) ?

Freightening but very interesting…

Ubiq’window is featured in multiple Japanese media this months. SGI Japan’s integration of Ubiq’window with VizImpress enVision was covered by New Media a Japanese professional magazine about emerging media technologies (May release).

It was also in 2 articles (1, 2) by IT Media (an online reference magazine from SoftBank), in ASCII.jp, BCN (paper) and Electronic Advertising Newspaper (paper).

We also covered the topic in a note about the future of street signage on this blog.

Below an excerpt of New Media article (as we cannot publish the entire article):

graphical talents.
In preparation to the launch of a new product line we are looking for a grahic designer who is aimed at becoming our Art Director.
The position is best based in Tokyo but, as we are a non-standard company (…and resources are scarce in Japan), we welcome candidates located in Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, China, Taiwan, Australia,…) if they are mature enough to manage remote working.
The right profile masters essential tools like Photoshop, AfterEffect, Flash, etc… but more importantly has creation talent.
Please send us your CV and portfolio at info at lm3labs dot com.

Hacking Dynamic Signage, just a beginning.

April 10th, 2007 | Posted in Life! | No Comments »

It is just a beginning but it shows something. Plasma screens for dynamic signage in New York are hacked by artists who transform them into temporary art works.

Taking a sociologist’s hat, we can interpret it as: "we do not want to be spectators, fed with what you want us to see, we wanna be part of the story".

It is a nothing else for an cry for a "we want something else", for engagement,…for interactivity.

Last week was a W-week for Tokyo as it was the opening of the mega urban area called "Tokyo Midtown" and the highest skyscraper of the city.

It does not happen everyday. Tokyo Midtown is in Roppongi, one of the hottest place in Tokyo.
And Midtown is not only hot it is simply a beautiful place.

MidTown Roppongi

It was designed by famous architect Tadao Ando. The developer is Mitsui Fudosan an other LM3LABS’ customer.

Catchyoo was of the party for the opening of prestigious Ritz-Carlton with Dior.
A very private party where Catchyoo promoted the French brand.

There are other amazing events coming very soon at Midtown for Catchyoo… we keep the secret for now!
