“Hello I am Microsoft, hi I am Ubiq”

Would Apple’s ads be so true?

Microsoft announced today their TouchLight product, 4 years after Ubiq’window entered the market. And it is far behind what was launched at this time.

Gosh!, they use 3 cameras, that look pretty expensive, the integration is straight out from the 70’s. It is not on your shop window next door tomorrow, trust our 4 year experience!

Ubiq’window is an all-in-one solution, installed in 5 mn on any shop window. Already bringing interactivity to hundreds of shop windows and showrooms in 20 countries… and counting!

So, Mr Job, I can testimony: those guys are completely out of any real market life!!

This is a movie from our Spanish distributor Visualtec. 3D handling by public. It was in 2005…

Catchyoo+Panasonic in Osaka

July 21st, 2006 | Posted in Catchyoo’s Installations , Ubiqwindow's Installations | No Comments »

Pana
Panasonic’s presentation of Catchyoo ends up with great figures. 3000 people from the Osaka region have attended their presentation of the product whithin 2 days.

Panasonic also used Ubiq’window for interaction with their new 103" plasma HD screen. The largest in the world to date.
Ubiq’window becomes the best tool for such a size. Visitors interacted distantly with the "beauty" and get the full pleasure of the image (touching a plasma directly is never pleasant, too hot and somehow flickering).

Panasonic’s interest in Catchyoo is far more strategic. "how great this tool to sell our new 10.000 lumens projector". Smart move from the giant.

Analysts warn: Future Boom!

Far from being some nice FX on the floor, Catchyoo has a very serious and mature strategy on the advertising market.

To match an established understanding of the advertisement market, Catchyoo positions on the "alternative Out-of-home media" and "interactive marketing" segments, which are part of the "alternative media strategies" market.

But what is an alternative medium?

It becomes more and more difficult to reach some specific audiences with legacy media that are TV, radio, newspaper, signage. Youth, in particular, becomes very difficult to catch with traditional "legacy" media. For a few years now there is an erosion in the traditional ad spending and this erosion has significantly accelerated in 2005.

In 2006, smart marketing budgets shift to alternative media that are (among others) online video advertising, podcasts, webisodes, and alternative out-of-home advertising that Catchyoo aims at leading.

Alternative media offer a better reach to targeted audience, they deliver stronger ROI metrics and are much more engaging to customers. A Catchyoo user spend an average 4 mn on the system which is exceptional in the advertising industry (See Here).

A survey from US analyst PQMedia (June 2006) takes a closer look at our booming market segment.
According to PQMedia, spending to alternative media rose about 16.5% on the first half of 2006 and it is planned to accelerate during the summer. Analysts forecast a US$116 Bio market in 2006, followed by a US$135 Bio in 2007. These are US figures only. By experience, we know that US, Europe and Asia are about 30% each of the advertising market.
Interactive marketing, to which Catchyoo belongs, is forecast to experience the fastest growth in 2006 (CAGR 23.4%).

Catchyoo positions as the most advanced solution on its segment thanks to features like statistics that deliver actionable usage data, scheduling and networking modules which significantly decrease the cost of operation of the systems allowing large scale, international deployments. Catchyoo user-friendly FX library let advertisers create new campaigns at web speed.

LM3LABS positions on alternative advertisement from their early days. Our customers understood very quickly the value of Ubiq’window as an alternative media. In January this year, Toyota launched an "edutainment" center in Bangkok named "The Style by Toyota" and targeting the Thai youth by positioning at the center point of trends and fashion in the country. This is the perfect example of a successful alternative media strategy. Toyota’s edutainment center is equipped with 8 Ubiq’window.

Catchyoo’s partners are currently building the largest international floor media network to support brand’s alternative strategy helping them to better value their ad spending.

Analysts warn: the future of advertisement is alternative advertising !

Catchyoo Graffiti for Pinky Monkey

July 16th, 2006 | Posted in Catchyoo Graffiti, Catchyoo’s Installations , Movies | No Comments »

On last May 1st, Catchyoo Graffiti was used by candy brand Pinky Monkey. Catchyoo Graffiti gave interactivity to a 4×3 meter wall where guests could play different games by moving their body. The final result is very interesting for users as they swim into a large interactive space. It is very immersive.

Similar projects can be deployed in public place for interactive advertizing. LM3LABS had requests for subway corridors… to be posted soon.

This precise project was brought by Catchyoo’s distributor Generation Create.

An other precious interactivity tool: Ubiq’window

July 14th, 2006 | Posted in Museum, Ubiq'window, Ubiqwindow's Installations | No Comments »

UbiqnttsmallI think it is the right time to introduce Ubiq’window in the picture. Ubiq’window is a technology that brings interactivity to flat surfaces like glass window as well as distant screens, whatever their size, whatever their technologies (projection, LED, plasma, fog screen, water,…).

Ubiq’window’s technology is computer vision. It means there is no sensitive stuff, no sensors, no infra-red scanner and other old tech stuff.
2 stereo camera track very accurately the position of user’s finger in space and associate it to actions.

Ubiq’window is not new on the market as we launched it in 2003 in Japan. It has been used by largest Japanese companies like NTT DoCoMo (LM3LABS’ historical customer), DNP, NEC, Olympus, or more recently by Panasonic. It is today a mature product that can be deployed in many contexts.

Because it is only computer vision it fits regular shop windows without any complex installation. It stands sun or rain.

There are a lot of crap solutions on the market. As far as I know Ubiq’window is the only serious product to be adopted by so many large companies.

it can be used for large screen interactivity like in the attached picture (a larger one is posted in the photo album). This was done for NTT Intercommunication Center in Tokyo (the temple of Art+Technology) or more commercially for real estate giant Mitsui Fudosan in Chiba (I’ll post a movie soon).

Applications have been incredibly various. It has been used with feet, on fog screens, in the street (Brisbane information center), in executive showrooms.

Ubiq’window positions as an open platform that content creators can use with Flash, Director or simply an html web site.

So Ubiq’window is very complementary to Catchyoo and customers often associate the 2 technologies to immerse their customers in a real interactive experience. We will keep you posted on interesting installation of Ubiq’window.

Ubiq’window’s web site is here.

Catchyoo Interactive Table

July 11th, 2006 | Posted in Catchyoo Interactive Table, Catchyoo’s Installations , Movies | No Comments »

Without going too far back on what LM3LABS has done in the last 3 years, it is important to present Catchyoo’s applications. Here is the Catchyoo table installed in the showroom in Omotesando/Aoyama (always in Tokyo).

The prospect (at that time), then customer was cosmetics giant Kanebo.
There is an other movie posted on YouTube by mysterious Chio (there’s music on it!).
Catchyoo table is applicable to any table. And to anticipate your question: yes on rear and front projection.
Feeling from using this kind of interactivity is very different from the ground interactivity (soon a movie of it).  Applications ? This is obviously not a product for collaborative work (does someone need such collaborative table when using PC are so easy?). No, Catchyoo interactive table is for interactive advertisement on club/bar tables, because this is finally where the money is.
